Araghchi Accuses World Economic Forum of Double Standards After Davos Invitation Revoked

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused the World Economic Forum (WEF) of moral decay and applying double standards after his invitation to the Davos forum was revoked, which he said was the result of political pressure from Israel and its allies.

Iran (IMNA) - In a post on his X account, Araghchi said the WEF canceled his planned appearance in Davos “on the basis of lies and political pressure from Israel and its U.S.-based proxies and apologists.”

Referring to recent unrest in Iran, the foreign minister stated that “one fundamental truth” underpinned the violence, saying Iran had to defend its people “against armed terrorists and ISIS-style killings openly backed by Mossad.”

Araghchi contrasted the decision to revoke his invitation with what he described as the WEF’s continued engagement with Israeli officials. He said that Israel’s actions against Palestinians, which he described as a genocide and the killing of 71,000 innocent people, had not led the forum to cancel any invitations to Israeli representatives. He also pointed to Israeli President Isaac Herzog’s appearance in Davos in January 2024, noting that Herzog attended despite facing criminal charges in Switzerland related to the war in Gaza.

“If WEF wants to feign a supposedly ‘moral’ stance, that is its prerogative. But it should at least be consistent about it,” Araghchi wrote, adding that the “blatant double standard only conveys moral depravity and intellectual bankruptcy.”

Sharing a video related to the recent riots, Araghchi said people had “the right to know the truth and judge for themselves,” adding that “shame is solely reserved for those who think otherwise.”
