Hazrat Zeynab (SA) remembered as symbol of courage, voice of Karbala

Today marks the martyrdom anniversary of Hazrat Zeynab (SA), the beloved granddaughter of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who holds a revered place in Islamic history for her courage, wisdom, and steadfast defense of truth and justice.

Iran (IMNA) - Muslims around the world commemorate the occasion with great reverence, honoring a figure whose life and role, particularly during and after the Battle of Karbala, exemplified resilience and unwavering faith.

Hazrat Zeynab (SA), the daughter of Imam Ali (AS) and Lady Fatimah (SA), was born on the 5th of Jamadi al-Awwal in the year 6 AH in Medina. She was raised in a household guided by the teachings of the Holy Quran and the example of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Her father instilled in her a profound understanding of justice and leadership, while her mother inspired her with compassion and piety.

From an early age, Hazrat Zeynab (SA) demonstrated exceptional intelligence and eloquence, becoming known for her deep knowledge of Islamic teachings and her ability to convey them clearly and powerfully.

She played a critical role in the events of Karbala, one of the most defining moments in Islamic history. The battle took place on the 10th of Muharram, 61 AH (680 CE), when her brother, Imam Hussain (AS), along with 72 loyal companions, confronted the oppressive forces of Yazid ibn Muawiyah.

Although she did not participate directly in the fighting, Hazrat Zeynab’s role was pivotal. She provided moral and emotional support to Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions, cared for the women and children in the camp, and helped maintain morale amid extreme hardship.

Following the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) and the men of his camp, Hazrat Zeynab (SA) emerged as a leader among the survivors. She protected the women and children and ensured that the message of Imam Hussain’s sacrifice for justice and truth was preserved and conveyed.

On this anniversary, Muslims commemorate Hazrat Zeynab’s sacrifices through prayers, recitations, and reflections on her life. Her legacy continues to symbolize resistance against oppression and the enduring importance of standing firm in the pursuit of justice, faith, and humanity.
