Iran (IMNA) - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil Pinto spoke by telephone to review recent developments after the United States’ military action against Venezuela.
During the call, Araghchi strongly condemned the US move, including what he described as the abduction of Venezuela’s legitimate president and his wife, calling it a clear example of state terrorism and a blatant violation of Venezuela’s sovereignty and the national will of its people.
He reaffirmed the Islamic Republic of Iran’s unwavering support for the Venezuelan people and their elected government.
For his part, Gil Pinto expressed appreciation for Iran’s principled position and its declaration of solidarity with Venezuela. He stressed that the Venezuelan people and government remain determined to defend their national sovereignty and right to self-determination in the face of what he described as the United States’ illegal and bullying policies.
The phone conversation took place amid heightened regional and international reactions to Washington’s recent actions toward Venezuela. Iran has repeatedly criticized US policies in Latin America, characterizing them as violations of international law, national sovereignty, and the right of nations to self-determination.
