Iran (IMNA) - In a bilateral discussion with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Pezeshkian highlighted a 40 percent increase in Iran–Kazakhstan trade over the recent period, while noting that both countries have much greater potential for expanding economic cooperation.
He stated that the trade roadmap aimed at raising bilateral commerce to three billion dollars has been completed and is ready for implementation, expressing hope that the private sectors of both nations will make full use of this opportunity.
Pezeshkian thanked President Tokayev for his hospitality and underscored the deep cultural ties between Iran and Kazakhstan, rooted in centuries of interaction along the historic Silk Road. He stressed that these historical bonds provide a solid foundation for stronger and expanded relations.
The Iranian president pointed out that Iran has maintained friendly relations with Kazakhstan since its independence and that ties with neighboring countries hold particular significance for the Islamic Republic of Iran. He recalled that the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has consistently highlighted the importance of strengthening fraternal relations with neighboring and Muslim countries.
Pezeshkian also noted that Tehran and Astana are closely aligned on numerous regional and global issues, achieving substantial progress through cooperation in political, economic, and cultural fields.
He highlighted active Iranian–Kazakh collaboration in international and multilateral organizations, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Eurasian Economic Union, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Caspian Sea framework, and called for further joint efforts to reinforce these partnerships.
Addressing the regional and international context, Pezeshkian said the region faces complex challenges due to unilateral actions by the United States and some Western powers, which he argued target the identity and independence of sovereign nations. In this environment, he stressed that Iran and Kazakhstan must advance their bilateral relations with greater determination.
The president reiterated that despite substantial growth in trade, both countries must prioritize resolving banking and financial connectivity issues to enable further expansion. He emphasized that full implementation of the Free Trade Agreement between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union would significantly enhance economic ties and urged all relevant agencies to ensure its complete execution.
