Iran Warns Anti-Tehran Draft at IAEA Board Would Harm Cooperation

Iran’s Permanent Mission in Vienna has cautioned that any attempt by Western countries to pass an anti-Iran resolution at next week’s meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors would be a “major mistake” and an effort to further politicize the agency.

Iran (IMNA) - In a statement posted on X, the Mission said, “The United States and the E3 intend to table a resolution against Iran at next week’s meeting of the IAEA BoG. This action, another major mistake after so-called snapback, constitutes yet a new deliberate attempt to politicize the Board.”

The Mission stressed that “these confrontational tactics are misguided and will yield no advantage whatsoever to them,” warning that adopting such a resolution “will unavoidably and adversely affect the positive course of cooperation between Iran and the IAEA.”

According to reports in Iranian media, France, Britain, and Germany are preparing a draft resolution to be presented to the IAEA Board during its regular November session, which opens Wednesday at the Agency’s headquarters in Vienna.

Press TV’s Vienna correspondent confirmed on Friday, citing diplomatic sources, that the E3 are working on the new anti-Iran text, following IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi’s November 12 report on Iran’s nuclear program, which focused on uranium stockpile assessments.

However, he noted that the draft has not yet been formally submitted to the Agency and remains under discussion in the capitals of the three European states. It also remains unclear whether the United States will co-sponsor the initiative.
