Iran to Launch Multiple Satellites as Space Program Enters New Phase

The head of the Iranian Space Agency (ISA) announced on Monday that several domestically developed satellites, including Zafar, Paya, and Kosar, are completing their final technical stages and are scheduled for launch in the coming months.

Iran (IMNA) – Speaking at the “Space Technology for Sustainable Development” event held at the ICT Technology Park, ISA chief Hassan Salarieh highlighted the expanding role of satellite-based data services in supporting national development. He noted that the conference aimed to showcase the private sector’s growing capacity in providing satellite imagery and data solutions for key areas such as agriculture, water resources management, environmental monitoring, and meteorology.

Salarieh underlined that the use of satellite data has advanced considerably in recent years, enabling improved accuracy in estimating crop areas, identifying mineral resources, and monitoring dust storm hotspots.

He also revealed that Iran’s 10-year space program is currently being updated, particularly in the field of satellite data services. The ISA, tasked with revising the plan since last year, is assessing national capabilities in coordination with the Space Council. The revised roadmap will be submitted to the Supreme Space Council and the president for final approval, after which it will serve as an official guideline for government agencies, private companies, universities, and research institutions.

According to Salarieh, the Zafar, Paya, and Kosar satellites are expected to be launched in early winter, with the exact launch dates to be announced soon. He added that the Almas and Konaran space bases are nearing completion and will become operational in the near future.

On the international front, Salarieh confirmed that Iran is cooperating with China on lunar exploration projects and engaging with ECO member states in joint research, training, public outreach, and satellite-based data initiatives.
