Iran’s Nuclear Program Serves People’s Welfare, Not Weapons Production

President Masoud Pezeshkian has reaffirmed that Iran’s growing nuclear industry is dedicated to improving public welfare and advancing peaceful applications rather than pursuing nuclear weapons.

Iran (IMNA) - Speaking on Sunday during a meeting with senior managers of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) following his visit to an exhibition of the nation’s latest nuclear achievements, Pezeshkian highlighted advancements in healthcare, medicine, and radiopharmaceutical production.

He dismissed the biased propaganda that equates nuclear activity with atomic bomb development, emphasizing that “the nuclear industry represents a vast array of scientific and industrial capacities, and only a minute portion relates to weapon production.”

“Our aim in developing this sector,” the president stated, “is to fulfill the needs of the people and improve their quality of life—not to build weapons.”

Pezeshkian underscored the necessity of adopting modern technologies and competing globally, saying such progress is essential at a time when “arrogant powers seek to deny independent nations access to advanced technologies and restrict them to mere assembly industries.”

He added that hostility toward Iran and the assassination of its scientists are rooted in global powers’ fear of Iran’s scientific and technological independence.

“We have repeatedly announced that nuclear weapons are not part of our defense doctrine—and they know this. Yet they fabricate excuses to obstruct Iran’s progress,” he noted.

Iran’s stance is grounded in a binding religious decree (fatwa) by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, which explicitly forbids the development or use of nuclear weapons.

In his remarks, Pezeshkian also paid tribute to the martyrs of June’s illegal Israeli-US aggression against Iran—particularly the nuclear scientists—describing their sacrifice as “scientific jihad and sincere service to the nation.”

The June 13 assault by Israel, which sparked a 12-day conflict, left at least 1,064 Iranians dead, including civilians, military figures, and nuclear scientists. The United States further escalated the situation by bombing three Iranian nuclear sites in violation of international law.

Iran’s Armed Forces retaliated by targeting strategic sites within the occupied territories and the U.S. Al-Udeid air base in Qatar. By June 24, Iran’s operations successfully forced an end to the aggression, marking a decisive response to the joint Israeli-US offensive.
