Iran (IMNA) -He noted that their first meeting took place in Tehran during the International Poopak Festival, describing the current encounter as their second official meeting, held in an atmosphere of warmth and friendship.
Expressing his pleasure in visiting Isfahan, Hakobyan said, “Isfahan holds a very special place in Iran’s economic, cultural, and artistic life. I am visiting this province with great joy, satisfaction, and a sense of appreciation. This is not my first trip to Isfahan—during my previous diplomatic mission in Iran, when I served as a consul, I visited the city several times and always returned with feelings of peace, respect, and admiration for its people.”

The Armenian ambassador noted that, as the Mayor of Isfahan had mentioned, bilateral relations between Iran and Armenia are currently at a very high level. “The leaders of both countries enjoy close communication, effective dialogue, and constructive cooperation in various political, economic, cultural, social, and infrastructural fields. These interactions are built on mutual trust and respect,” he said.
Hakobyan stressed that the current state of relations is not the result of recent efforts, but rather the outcome of centuries of friendship, coexistence, and shared culture. “Iranians and Armenians have lived together peacefully throughout history, and this historical legacy continues to serve as a strong foundation for deepening bilateral ties,” he added.
Referring to the role of the Armenian community as a bridge between the two nations, he said, “The Armenian community, both in Iran and in Armenia, has played a significant role in strengthening friendship and fostering mutual understanding between our peoples. The connection between Iran and Armenia goes beyond neighboring borders—it is a profound bond rooted in shared history and cultural heritage.”
The ambassador also expressed gratitude toward Isfahan’s authorities, particularly the municipality and provincial officials, for their attention to preserving Armenian heritage in the city. “I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to the Municipality of Isfahan, the provincial government, and all local authorities for their dedicated efforts in safeguarding the Armenian heritage of this city. The Armenian landmarks in Isfahan—including churches, educational institutions, and cultural centers in the Jolfa district—are a vital part of the city’s and indeed Iran’s historical and cultural identity. Fortunately, Isfahan’s municipal administration has demonstrated great responsibility and cultural awareness in preserving these sites,” he said.

Hakobyan described his recent visit to Isfahan as a valuable opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions with city officials. “We held extensive and productive talks focused on expanding cooperation, especially in urban management, culture, art, and tourism. There is great potential for Isfahan and Yerevan to collaborate effectively in these fields,” he stated.
He added that sister-city relations between Isfahan and Yerevan could serve as a practical platform for the exchange of managerial experience and cultural initiatives. “We can confidently expect to see broader cooperation between the two cities in the near future, including reciprocal visits by mayors and municipal officials, specialized meetings, cultural exchanges, and joint urban projects. Such initiatives will usher in a new phase of partnership,” the ambassador noted.
Hakobyan concluded by reaffirming Armenia’s readiness to support further cooperation. “The Embassy of Armenia warmly welcomes any initiative aimed at strengthening ties between Isfahan and Yerevan. I am confident that the Municipality of Yerevan shares this positive outlook and enthusiasm. We are fully prepared to host a delegation from Isfahan in Yerevan soon and, in turn, to welcome the Mayor of Yerevan to Isfahan. These exchanges will undoubtedly deepen our friendship and enhance cultural, economic, and social collaboration between our two nations,” he said.
