Iran (IMNA) – Lawmakers in Sunday’s open session of Parliament ratified an amendment to Article 3 of the National Artificial Intelligence Bill, authorizing the establishment of the organization using existing national capacities and resources.
The secretariat of the new body will function under the President’s oversight, ensuring coordination among relevant government institutions in the implementation of national AI strategies.
Under the newly approved measure, the head of the National Artificial Intelligence Organization will be appointed by the President.
Within three months of the law’s enactment, the organization must prepare its statute in collaboration with the Vice Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy, the Administrative and Recruitment Affairs Organization, the Planning and Budget Organization, and the Ministries of Science, Health, ICT, Labor, and Education. The finalized statute will then be submitted to the Cabinet for approval.
This legislative decision represents a significant milestone in formalizing Iran’s AI governance structure and integrating artificial intelligence into national policy planning.
