Iran (IMNA) - According to Afghanistan’s Ministry of Public Works under the Taliban administration, the accord aims to expand railway networks and enhance cargo transit between the three countries.
Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, the ministry’s spokesperson, said the agreement was finalized on the sidelines of the 36th UIC Asia Pacific Regional Assembly in Turkey.
Under the memorandum of understanding, the Khaf–Herat railway line will be extended to Mazar-i-Sharif, with all three nations contributing their technical, financial, and human resources to advance the project.
The agreement further highlights joint efforts to facilitate cross-border cargo movement, increase rail transport capacity, and promote technical and educational cooperation among Afghanistan, Iran, and Turkey.
Officials emphasize that the trilateral agreement will not only improve trade and cargo movement but also foster closer economic integration, increase rail transport capacity, and promote technical and educational cooperation among the three nations.
The initiative aligns with Iran’s broader vision of transforming into a key transit corridor within the International North–South Transport Network (INSTC), linking regional economies and facilitating more sustainable and cost-effective trade routes across the continent.
