Student carpooling offers practical solution to ease traffic, promote urban culture in Isfahan

The head of the Research Center of Isfahan’s Islamic City Council says that implementing a “student carpooling” plan, organized in cooperation with parents, could be an effective strategy to reduce traffic congestion and promote civic responsibility among residents.

Iran (IMNA) - Mostafa Nabatinejad noted that traffic congestion in major cities, including Isfahan, has reached alarming levels. “Urban management now requires creative and participatory solutions. A student carpooling initiative involving parents can help decrease the number of private cars on busy routes while fostering a culture of responsibility and cooperation among citizens,” he said.

He added that such initiatives demand close collaboration between schools, parents, and the municipality. “With proper planning, we can reduce peak-hour traffic and improve the overall quality of urban life,” Nabati-Nejad emphasized.

The council research chief also pointed out that, beyond easing traffic, the program could yield significant environmental and public health benefits. “Fewer private vehicles mean lower air pollution and safer school routes. Families can also decide on financial arrangements among themselves or simply participate voluntarily without any monetary exchange,” he explained.

According to Nabati-Nejad, the Municipality of Isfahan is prepared to cooperate with schools and parents to pilot the project in selected districts. “If the results prove successful, we plan to expand the program citywide,” he announced.

He further noted that family trust and child safety are central to the initiative. “The Taxi Organization and private transport companies must ensure that vehicles involved meet all legal and insurance requirements,” he said.

Nabati-Nejad concluded that the student carpooling project could become a model of participatory urban action. “This plan can serve as a successful example for other metropolises and help embed the culture of safe walking routes and shared responsibility among families,” he said.
