Iran Officially Joins International Convention Against Terrorism Financing

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has officially ratified and communicated the law on Iran’s accession to the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism (CFT) to the country’s relevant executive bodies.

Iran (IMNA) _ President Pezeshkian, in a letter dated October 21, notified the Judiciary, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Intelligence, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance, and the Central Bank of Iran of the law approving Iran’s accession to the CFT, which had previously been passed by the Iranian Parliament (Majlis).

The presidential decree emphasizes that, pursuant to Article 123 of the Iranian Constitution, the law—originally approved by Parliament in December 2018—was subsequently endorsed by the Expediency Council with specific modifications and reservations.

It further notes that, in accordance with Article 125 of the Constitution, the implementation of the treaty’s provisions will depend on the completion of the formalities outlined in Article 26 of the Convention.
