President Pezeshkian Pledges Special Focus on Resolving Isfahan Farmers' Water Challenges

President Masoud Pezeshkian, during his first visit to Isfahan as the head of the Fourteenth Administration, affirmed the government's "special commitment" to addressing the water and agricultural challenges faced by the province's farmers.

Iran (IMNA) - Speaking at a specialized conference on water and agriculture—held this afternoon at the Isfahan Summit Hall in the presence of representatives from farmers' guilds and members of Parliament—the President announced the formation of a special task force. This group, composed of elite experts and prominent university professors in the field of water, has been commissioned to present a comprehensive, operational program to resolve the complex issue.

According to a report by IRNA, President Pezeshkian stated that the program would encompass all dimensions of the matter, including its economic, social, and environmental aspects. He emphasized that any governmental intervention or decision must be preceded by a meticulous assessment of its potential consequences and ramifications.

"University experts and academics are currently studying and formulating scientific and practical solutions," the President noted. "We hope that by implementing these solutions, we can restore balance to the nation's natural environment, especially in Isfahan province."

The President further asserted that the Fourteenth Administration "is the inheritor of multiple imbalances, particularly in the water sector, not the cause of them." He pointed out that a significant portion of the water-related problems across various regions stems from the "mismanagement of past administrations" and "unbalanced development."

Pezeshkian questioned the rationale behind implementing extensive development plans without regard for necessary prerequisites, particularly given the nation's severe water challenges and limited resources. He stressed that the disruption of the balance between available resources, demand, consumption, and disproportionate development has resulted in widespread negative repercussions for the environment, public life, and farmers.

He cited excessive extraction of underground water as a major factor contributing to the critical issue of land subsidence across the country, particularly pronounced in Isfahan.

The President also took a critical stance on ongoing development pressures. "Despite these conditions, some respected Members of Parliament continue to pressure the government through various means to secure new development permits," he remarked. "We must adopt a realistic perspective on resource constraints and abstain from non-expert decisions."

The President concluded by expressing his gratitude for the proposals and solutions presented by the attending farmers and experts, assuring them that their suggestions would "certainly be considered." He also commended the public's support during recent national events, stating the government appreciates their loyalty and will spare no effort in serving them and solving their problems.

The specialized conference was a key event in President Pezeshkian's visit to Isfahan, his first since assuming the presidency. Upon arrival on Thursday, he was received by Ayatollah Seyyed Yousef Tabatabaeinejad, the Friday Prayer Leader and Supreme Leader's Representative in Isfahan, as well as Governor Mehdi Jamalinejad and other provincial officials.

Additional programs during the trip include attending the closing ceremony of the National School Builders Festival, the opening of the Fourth International Congress on Nahj al-Balagha and Alavi Governance, and the inauguration of the 22nd National Skills Competition.
