Iran Condemns Nobel Peace Prize for Maria Corina Machado, Calling it a "Mockery of Peace", Cites Support for Gaza "Genocide"

The Iranian embassy in Caracas denounced the decision to award the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize to Venezuelan opposition figure Maria Corina Machado, labeling it a mockery of the concept of peace.

Iran (IMNA) - In a post on its official account on X on Saturday, October 11, the Iranian Embassy in Venezuela stated, "Awarding the 'Peace' Prize to someone who justifies the genocide in Gaza and calls for foreign military aggression against Venezuela is merely another indication of the West’s divisive and interventionist mindset toward the developing world."

The Iranian mission stressed that this choice is "nothing but a mockery of the very concept of 'peace.'"The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded on Friday to Machado for what was described as her work "promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela."However, the text highlights that critics have challenged Machado’s outspoken support for the Israeli regime. Machado has voiced support for Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s far-right cabinet.

If elected, she has also stated she would move Venezuela’s embassy from Tel Aviv to occupied al-Quds, a move that would align Venezuela with Washington and signal a clear shift from its historic backing of the Palestinian cause. Her political party, Vente Venezuela, also signed cooperation agreements with Netanyahu’s Likud Party, pledging to strengthen relations between Venezuela and the Zionist regime.Machado has also been an outspoken supporter of US President Donald Trump, describing him as the “biggest opportunity we’ve ever had” for regime change in Venezuela.
