Iran Rejects G7 Statement on Nuclear Program as Deceptive, Legally Baseless

Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei strongly condemned the recent G7 statement on Tehran’s nuclear program, calling it deceptive and a distortion of facts.

Iran (IMNA) - In a Thursday statement on his Telegram channel, Baghaei criticized the G7 for backing the “illegal and unjustified” action by the United States and three European countries to reinstate previously ended UN Security Council resolutions against Iran. He described this as endorsing a clear violation of international law.

Baghaei accused the European Troika of misusing the dispute resolution mechanism known as the Snapback Mechanism under the JCPOA, stressing that their move “lacks any legal or logical justification.” He emphasized that the G7’s stance does not change the inherently unlawful nature of these actions.

Highlighting past military attacks by Israel and the US during ongoing diplomatic talks, Baghaei rejected the G7’s claim that the US and the three European countries (E3) have made sincere efforts for peaceful diplomatic solutions, calling it “a blatant lie and a reversal of the truth.”

He blamed the US for the current situation due to its “illegal and unilateral withdrawal from the JCPOA in 2018” and ongoing violations of international law related to Iran. He also criticized the European countries for following the US, failing to meet their commitments, and supporting military aggression against Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities by the US and Israel. This, he said, ignored all of Iran’s diplomatic efforts.

Baghaei further condemned the G7 for ignoring Israel’s nuclear arsenal, labeling their approach to non-proliferation as “hypocritical.” He underscored that the G7 lacks any moral authority to lecture others given their “deceitful and irresponsible behavior toward the rule of law, peace, and international security.”
