Iran (IMNA) — Speaking on X Monday, Baghaei condemned the Council’s inability to endorse the draft resolution for extension, accusing the so-called “rules-based order” of being dictated by one ruler while the E3 European states simply follow.
He highlighted that a significant number of Council members did not back the reinstatement of sanctions measures that had already expired. Despite pressure from the E3 and the United States, six out of the 15 members withheld their support. Baghaei said this revealed deep divisions within the Council, with nearly half unconvinced about the legitimacy and legality of the reimposition triggered by the E3.
Baghaei further alleged that European members were misusing the Security Council process as a tool to advance US interests. He reaffirmed that according to Resolution 2231 itself, the resolution’s provisions would expire on October 18, 2025, and any effort by the E3 or the United States to revive terminated sanctions would be considered null and void.
He also noted that Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had communicated Tehran’s position directly to foreign governments through official letters to his counterparts worldwide.
