UN Reimposes Sanctions on Iran Amid Claims of Violations, Diplomatic Warnings

The United Nations sanctions on Iran, previously terminated, were officially reimposed early Sunday despite ongoing disputes over legitimacy and compliance.

Iran (IMNA) - The United States and the European troika—France, Germany, and the UK—confirmed the restoration of these sanctions, renewing international pressure on Tehran.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, whose country exited the JCPOA agreement in 2018 in a move criticized for violating international law, claimed the UN Security Council’s decision signals that the global community will not yield to Iran’s threats. Rubio emphasized that Iran must be held accountable but maintained that "the door to diplomacy remains open," insisting that a negotiated agreement remains the best path forward for Iran’s people.

Meanwhile, the European troika released a statement, as reported by Reuters, endorsing the sanctions reinstatement and urging Iran to refrain from provocative actions. Critics note Europe’s close alignment with US and Israeli positions in this matter.

According to the Associated Press, the renewed sanctions will freeze Iran’s foreign assets, prohibit arms transactions, and target its ballistic missile program development, marking a significant escalation in international efforts to curb Tehran’s strategic capabilities.
