Iran Affirms Transparency, Rejects Nuclear Weapon Allegations in Meeting with EU Council President

During a meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to transparency regarding its peaceful nuclear program and rejected allegations of pursuing nuclear weapons. Speaking with European Council President António Costa, Pezeshkian emphasized Tehran’s dedication to national unity and constructive international relations based on mutual respect.

Iran (IMNA) - President Pezeshkian highlighted that his administration has prioritized strengthening national consensus while expanding cooperative ties with the world, including European countries. He criticized Israel for obstructing peace efforts since the start of his government, describing the Zionist regime’s actions as persistent obstacles.

Rejecting accusations related to Iran’s nuclear activities, Pezeshkian reiterated that Iran has never sought nuclear weapons and expressed willingness to cooperate transparently to demonstrate the falsity of such claims. He blamed those who violated commitments and withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) for the current crisis.

The Iranian leader also condemned what he described as global double standards, noting the silence of world powers regarding Israeli violations while harshly scrutinizing Iran over minor issues. He questioned accusations of assassinations or terrorism by Iran abroad, asserting instead that Iran is among the largest victims of terrorism.

European Council President António Costa voiced the EU’s interest in deepening engagement with Iran, underscoring that dialogue and understanding offer the best approach to addressing challenges. Costa also condemned Israeli actions and highlighted that establishing an independent Palestinian state is the most effective solution for the Palestinian issue. He noted that recognition of Palestine by the majority of European states marks progress toward this goal.
