Araghchi Condemns European Neglect of US-Israeli Aggression, Reaffirms Iran’s Nuclear Rights, Calls for UN Action

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi has strongly criticized three European countries for their irresponsible stance toward the recent US and Israeli aggressions against Iran. He condemned their threats to reinstate canceled UN Security Council resolutions, warning this would heighten tensions.

Iran (IMNA) - Speaking with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Thursday night, Araghchi reaffirmed Iran's dedication to safeguarding its people’s rights under the Non-Proliferation Treaty and called on the UN and its members to firmly oppose illegal attacks on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities.

Araghchi emphasized Iran’s cooperative engagement with international bodies, highlighting ongoing constructive talks to meet its safeguards obligations despite recent assaults on its nuclear infrastructure. He stressed the necessity for European countries and Security Council members to recognize and support these diplomatic advances. Additionally, Araghchi condemned Israel’s genocide in occupied Palestine as a critical global issue, calling on the international community and the UN, including Guterres, to act decisively to stop the aggression and address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

He also strongly denounced Israel’s recent airstrikes against Hamas headquarters in Doha, Qatar. On Tuesday, Israeli warplanes targeted the site in what Israeli media called an “assassination operation” during a Hamas meeting to discuss the latest US ceasefire proposal. Iran’s top military commander vowed that Iran and its armed forces would stand by Qatar “until the end.”

UN Secretary-General Guterres acknowledged recent progress in Iran’s dialogue with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and reiterated UN support for diplomatic engagement over Iran’s nuclear issue. Following a three-hour meeting in Cairo on Tuesday, Araghchi and IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi agreed on practical arrangements to resume inspections within Iran, ending months of suspended cooperation after Tehran halted IAEA access due to a 12-day Israeli and US military assault on its nuclear sites in June and July.

In response to the aggression, the Iranian parliament enacted a law banning unrestricted return of inspectors without measures protecting Iran’s nuclear sites. On Thursday night, Araghchi told IRIB that the IAEA recognized the attacks as unacceptable and agreed that future cooperation must comply with Iran’s parliamentary law and Supreme National Security Council decisions.

Amid these heightened tensions, Iran attributes sabotage attacks on its nuclear facilities to Israel. These incidents complicate relations between Tehran and Western powers regarding Iran’s nuclear program and the future of the 2015 JCPOA. Araghchi emphasized that Iran’s diplomatic efforts are fully coordinated with relevant authorities, insisting Tehran will not compromise its national security or yield to external pressure.
