Iran (IMNA) - General Mousavi made these comments during a phone call with Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs. Describing the Israeli airstrikes on Hamas headquarters in Doha as a “criminal act,” Mousavi emphasized that Iranian officials and political leaders “strongly” condemn the incident.
The airstrikes, launched on Tuesday by Israeli warplanes, targeted Hamas leaders reportedly meeting to discuss a new US proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza. Mousavi underscored that Iran’s Armed Forces “will never hesitate to support” Qatar, highlighting that the two nations share a bond “based on brotherhood.”
He reaffirmed Iran’s commitment not to abandon Qatar amid hostility, particularly against “the criminal Zionist regime,” which he identified as “the main cause of tension and instability in the region.” The general further criticized the West, especially the US, for their “unwavering support” of Israel’s occupation and repression of Palestinians. He insisted that without this Western backing, Israel would be unable to “sustain its shameful existence.”
In response, Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani described the Israeli strike as a cowardly “dagger” against Qatar, occurring even during peace meetings and diplomatic efforts coordinated by various parties. He stated the attack was consistent with Israel’s opposition to Qatar’s attempts to find peaceful solutions regarding Gaza.
Though deeply appreciative of Iran’s historic and recent support, the Qatari official expressed hope that both sides would soon convene to jointly develop practical solutions. He also anticipated that the upcoming emergency Arab-Islamic summit in Doha would produce effective results, which would be witnessed by all, particularly the Israeli regime.
