(IMNA) – President Pezeshkian expressed satisfaction with the Alaska talks’ outcomes, hoping the discussions would help resolve the Ukraine crisis swiftly, according to the Iranian Presidency’s official website. He also pledged to personally oversee the expedited construction of the Rasht-Astara railway, a vital link connecting the Persian Gulf to Russia and Central Asia through the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), alongside other agreements between Iran and Russia.
Pezeshkian highlighted the importance of regional and international groups such as the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and BRICS as platforms to enhance cooperation with member states—particularly Russia and China—in countering unilateralism. He also mentioned his recent visit to Armenia, where Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan assured him that Iran’s concerns were fully considered in discussions and agreements with Azerbaijan and the United States. Pezeshkian advocated that the 3+3 dialogue framework between Iran and Russia provides a more effective approach to addressing Caucasus region issues.
In response, President Putin shared the key results of his recent meeting with US President Donald Trump in Alaska, stating that positive outcomes could pave the way for resolving the ongoing Ukraine conflict. Putin described Moscow-Tehran relations as constructive and steadily improving, noting an 11% trade increase between the two countries in the first half of this year. He also referenced progress in joint projects, including the Rasht-Astara railway and cooperation on the Bushehr nuclear power plant, with the delivery of new fuel currently in progress.
Putin reaffirmed Russia’s strong support for Iran’s right to uranium enrichment, calling it a fundamental part of their partnership, and expressed hope that negotiations related to UN Resolution 2231 will reach a favorable conclusion.
