Iran Earns $7.4 Billion from Foreign Tourism in Past Year

In the past Iranian calendar year, which ended in March 2025, Iran generated approximately $7.4 billion from foreign tourism, welcoming over 7.399 million international visitors, the Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts, Seyyed Reza Salehi-Amiri, announced on Thursday.

Iran (IMNA) - Salehi-Amiri stated that the average spending per foreign tourist during their stay in Iran ranged between $1,000 and $3,000. “According to global assessments, the average revenue per tourist is around $1,019. In Iran, this figure is estimated at about $1,000, while in the Persian Gulf region it reaches $2,000,” he explained.

He further highlighted that revenues from health tourism are notably higher, with medical tourists spending up to $3,000 each.

Data from Iran’s Law Enforcement Command (FARAJA) confirmed that 7.399 million foreign visitors entered the country last year, collectively contributing $7.4 billion in revenue, demonstrating the tourism sector’s vital role in boosting economic growth.

Most foreign visitors to Iran come from neighboring countries, according to previous tourism ministry reports. The Islamic Republic anticipates substantial benefits from its rich array of tourist attractions, including bazaars, museums, mosques, bridges, bathhouses, madrasas, mausoleums, churches, towers, and mansions, 28 of which are listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites.
