Massive Arbaeen Procession Unites Millions in Worldwide, Honoring Legacy of Imam Hussein, Calling for Justice

The Arbaeen procession has officially commenced in Tehran, starting from Imam Hussein (AS) Square and progressing toward the holy shrine of Hazrat Abdulazim Hassani (AS) in Shahr-e Ray, to the south of the capital, on Thursday, August 14, 2025.

Iran (IMNA) - Alongside Tehran, similar marches are underway across various Iranian cities and in numerous countries globally. These marches serve as symbolic journeys for Muslims unable to travel to Karbala in Iraq this year, commemorating the 40th day after Ashura—the day marking the martyrdom of Imam Hussein and his companions in the Battle of Karbala on October 10, 680 CE.

This year’s Arbaeen marks a massive religious event with millions of Iranian pilgrims expected to participate in the pilgrimage to Karbala itself, which is one of the largest peaceful religious gatherings worldwide. Iranian authorities have made extensive preparations to ensure the safety, security, and comfort of pilgrims both within Iran and at border crossings to Iraq. These preparations include robust coordination among Tehran Municipality departments, mobilization of popular and volunteer forces such as Basij bases and religious groups, and the establishment of service stations (Moukibs) along the route providing free food, water, medical aid, and prayer areas.

Tehran’s Urban Services Committee highlighted that cleaning programs and crowd management measures are in place to maintain order and safety. Special attention has been given to volunteer involvement promoting services such as prayer stations and votive food distribution. Meanwhile, medical infrastructure for pilgrims traveling to Karbala has been significantly enhanced with 25 medical centers and multiple hospitals prepared along the Iraqi route, up from 17 centers last year.

Official cooperation between Iran, Iraq, and Pakistan has further facilitated pilgrims' travel by removing visa restrictions and improving transportation, health, and security services. Over one million Iranians have registered for this pilgrimage, ranging in age from month to 100 years old, underscoring Arbaeen’s inclusive spiritual significance.

The pilgrimage and associated marches symbolize faith, unity, sacrifice, and a collective stand against tyranny, continuing to inspire millions worldwide to uphold the legacy of Imam Hussein (AS) and his timeless call for justice and peace.
