Armenian Prime Minister and Iranian President Discuss Regional Peace and Transit Corridor Concerns

Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held a phone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, during which Pezeshkian stressed that the agreed communicative route should not be used to serve foreign hegemonic ambitions.

Iran (IMNA) - According to Armen Press, during the call, Prime Minister Pashinyan shared with President Pezeshkian the results of the August 8 talks in Washington, D.C., highlighting the new opportunities for the region created by the peace established between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as noted by the Prime Minister’s office.

Pashinyan emphasized that regional transit routes will operate under the principles of territorial integrity, sovereignty, jurisdiction, and reciprocity among the countries involved. He also expressed gratitude to the Iranian President for his objective evaluation of the Washington agreements and highlighted the significance of Pezeshkian’s forthcoming visit to Armenia.

In the conversation, President Pezeshkian underscored the importance of preserving Armenia’s sovereignty in relation to the Yerevan-Baku transit corridor and stressed that no military or security forces should interfere in its implementation. He also warned about potential actions by the United States, which could pursue hegemonic objectives in the Caucasus under the guise of economic investment and peacekeeping efforts.

Pezeshkian concluded by stating, “It must be ensured that this path will truly be a path of peace and development, not a tool for achieving the hegemonic goals of foreigners.”
