Iran Condemns Israel’s Gaza City Occupation Plan as Clear Intent for Genocide

Iran has denounced Israel’s approved plan to occupy Gaza City, describing it as a clear demonstration of Israel’s "specific intent" to carry out ethnic cleansing and genocide in Gaza. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei condemned the plan on Friday, warning that it will cause forced displacement and aims to “complete the Palestinian people’s genocide” amid the ongoing 22-month conflict in the territory.

Iran (IMNA) - Baghaei called on the International Criminal Court and International Court of Justice to act against what he termed the “Israeli criminals” ruling over historic Palestine, urging the global community, including the United Nations and governments worldwide, to stop the ongoing genocide and atrocities in occupied Palestine. He expressed shame at the United States and Western nations for their continued complicity in Israel’s actions.

He stressed the urgent need to halt the violence and deliver humanitarian aid to the starving population of Gaza, highlighting the devastating famine crisis worsened by Israel’s severe restrictions on aid. Iran also formally called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey to convene an emergency meeting and called for collective action among Muslim countries to support Palestinians.

Since the conflict began on October 7, 2023, at least 61,330 Palestinians have been killed and over 152,000 injured, mostly women and children, according to Gaza health authorities. They have also reported 197 deaths from malnutrition amid the blockade’s harsh conditions.

Israel’s war cabinet approved the military plan on Friday to take control of Gaza City after months of relentless bombardment, marking a significant escalation in the siege. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated intentions to establish military control over the entire Gaza Strip, while stating Israel does not intend to govern the territory, suggesting possible Arab administration instead.

The plan reportedly involves evacuating civilians ahead of a ground offensive, although military leaders have shown resistance to the expansion, fearing risks to hostages held by Hamas. The plan faces widespread international criticism and calls from humanitarian groups to halt this new phase of the conflict.
