Iran, Pakistan Pursue Joint Free Economic Zone to Boost Bilateral Trade

Reza Masroor, Secretary of the Supreme Council of Free and Special Economic Zones, has announced that Iran and Pakistan are advancing efforts to strengthen trade and economic cooperation by establishing a joint free zone.

Iran (IMNA) - During his official trip to Pakistan, Masroor stated that both countries have laid the groundwork for expanding economic ties, with initiatives such as a joint free zone and extraterritorial cultivation on the agenda.

Alongside discussions on bolstering trade relations, both sides are set to address the establishment of a joint free zone, extraterritorial cultivation projects, and the broader development of regional cooperation. Masroor highlighted that launching the sixth generation of free zones through a joint initiative stands as a key priority for Iran’s Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance and the Secretariat of the Supreme Council of Free and Special Economic Zones.

The Iranian delegation, led by President Masoud Pezeshkian, arrived in Lahore, Punjab’s capital, on Saturday at the start of their official visit to Pakistan. Following this, they traveled to Islamabad for negotiations with Prime Minister Shebaz Sharif and other top Pakistani officials. The talks focus on the creation of a joint free zone and wider economic and trade collaboration between the two neighboring states.
