Iran (IMNA) - The purpose of this visit is to discuss "a new modality" or framework for cooperation between Iran and the IAEA, rather than to conduct inspections at nuclear sites.
Gharibabadi emphasized the importance of negotiating how to fulfill commitments under the current circumstances and stressed Iran's right to uranium enrichment, affirming that Iran will enrich uranium according to its needs while maintaining the capability to do everything necessary regarding its nuclear program. He also warned European parties to the 2015 nuclear deal not to trigger the snapback mechanism that would reinstate sanctions on Iran, cautioning that such a move could lead Iran to exit the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
The Iranian Atomic Energy Organization is currently assessing damage to nuclear installations damaged in recent airstrikes, but Gharibabadi described this as dangerous work with uncertain outcomes due to radiation risks. He also noted that if negotiations with the United States resume, they would be conducted indirectly.
In summary, the upcoming IAEA technical team's visit focuses on diplomatic and procedural discussions about the future of Iran-IAEA relations, amid heightened international tensions over Iran's nuclear program. The delegation will not inspect nuclear sites during this visit.
