Iran (IMNA) - Addressing the Supreme Council of Cyberspace on Tuesday, President Pezeshkian highlighted the council’s pivotal role in improving service quality and responding to pressing security challenges, especially under what he referred to as the current sensitive conditions.
Citing a Press TV report, Pezeshkian called for a thorough assessment to measure progress toward stated objectives in the cyberspace sector and to identify and resolve implementation challenges. He underscored the necessity of addressing existing security gaps and strengthening the resiliency of national infrastructure.
During the meeting, the National Cyberspace Center’s security division presented an in-depth report detailing recent cyber threats and Iran’s success in countering them. President Pezeshkian instructed the council’s secretariat to regularly update protocols and re-engineer cyber defense processes.
Iran has faced numerous cyberattacks by the United States and Israel, particularly during Israel’s 12-day war of aggression against Iran last month. On June 13, Israel initiated hostilities by launching attacks that included the assassination of high-ranking Iranian military commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians.
More than a week later, the United States joined the conflict by bombing three Iranian nuclear sites in violation of the United Nations Charter, international law, and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). At the outset of the war, Israel carried out multiple coordinated cyberattacks targeting Iran’s banking system and state television.
In retaliation, the Iranian Armed Forces struck strategic locations throughout the occupied territories, including Beer al-Sabe, the hub of Israel’s cyber industry and a key center for its cyber warfare operations.
Israeli media reported that a missile fired by Iran managed to bypass Israel’s multi-layered air defense systems; although detected, the systems failed to intercept it. On June 24, Iran successfully forced an end to the war through its retaliatory operations against the Israeli regime.
