Iranian President Pezeshkian Calls for Iran-Iraq Unity Against Israeli “Enemy” in Tehran Meeting

In a bilateral meeting in Tehran on Tuesday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized the necessity for Iran and Iraq to stand united against the Israeli regime, which he described as a destructive force undermining regional peace and security.

Iran (IMNA) - Speaking with Iraqi Minister of Interior Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, President Pezeshkian criticized the so-called “Zionist regime” as a project engineered by hegemonic powers to weaken, occupy, and exploit regional countries, leading to fragmentation. He stressed that Iran and Iraq must support one another and avoid divisions to confront what he termed “a common enemy.”

Describing the relationship between the two neighbors as brotherly and deeply rooted in religious and cultural ties, Pezeshkian affirmed, “We consider the government and people of Iraq and other Islamic countries as our brothers and will continue our efforts to strengthen unity, cohesion, and brotherhood among the Islamic community.”

The Iranian president also expressed gratitude toward the Iraqi government and people for their hospitality during the recent Arbaeen pilgrimage. He expressed hope that the ongoing coordination to facilitate this religious event would mark a turning point, paving the way for enhanced cooperation in areas such as border market activation, joint investments, and academic exchanges.

Minister Al-Shammari, conveying warm greetings from Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani to President Pezeshkian, commended the resilience of the Iranian people in the face of the “Zionist enemy.” He detailed Iraq’s comprehensive efforts to accommodate millions of pilgrims during Arbaeen, focusing on transportation, healthcare, and security.

Al-Shammari stated that the Iraqi government is fully mobilizing all capacities to ensure the religious ceremony is held in grandeur and confirmed that coordination efforts would persist until the departure of the last pilgrim.

The meeting underscores ongoing Iran-Iraq cooperation amidst regional tensions and highlights the importance both countries place on religious and cultural solidarity.
