Iranian Foreign Minister Condemns US, Israeli Aggression Against Iran at BRICS Summit

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has strongly condemned the aggression by the United States and Israel against Iran, describing it as a severe blow to diplomacy, the rule of law, and the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) regime.

Iran (IMNA) - Araghchi made these remarks during his address at the 17th BRICS summit of emerging economies held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Sunday. He emphasized that the Israeli regime’s 12-day unprovoked military and terrorist strikes were conducted with the support, collaboration, and eventual participation of the United States.

He further stated that the unlawful Israeli attack against Iran violated the UN Charter, resulting in the deaths and injuries of more than 6,000 innocent people, as well as causing extensive damage to infrastructure, residential areas, and nuclear facilities within Iran.

“The US/Israeli attacks on our nuclear facilities were in stark violation of NPT and the UNSR resolution 2231 that has endorsed Iran's peaceful nuclear program in 2015 by consensus,” Araghchi noted.

“The US's subsequent involvement in this aggression by targeting Iran's peaceful nuclear installations has left no doubt as to the full complicity of the American government in Israel's war of aggression against Iran,” top Iranian diplomat added.

On June 13, 2025, Israel launched a blatant and unprovoked act of aggression against Iran, assassinating numerous high-ranking military commanders and nuclear scientists. The strikes targeted key figures including Maj. Gen. Mohammad Bagheri, chief of staff of Iran's armed forces; Gen. Hossein Salami, commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps; Gen. Gholamali Rashid, deputy commander-in-chief; as well as prominent nuclear scientists such as Fereydoun Abbasi and Mohammaddi Tehanchi. These attacks hit multiple Iranian nuclear facilities and military bases, severely undermining Iran’s military hierarchy.

On June 22, the United States officially joined Israel’s war of aggression against Iran by conducting airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities. This action violated the United Nations Charter and the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), further escalating the conflict.

On June 24, the Israeli regime, facing isolation and abandonment, declared a unilateral halt to its aggression. This cessation was announced on Israel’s behalf by then US President Donald Trump.
