Iran (IMNA) - Data provided by the Iranian Steel Producers Association reveals that Iran produced 14 million tons of steel during the first five months of 2025. Of that total, output reached 3.4 million tons in May alone.
Although Iran’s overall steel production from January to May declined by 5.3 percent compared to the same period in 2024, May’s figures showed a year-on-year increase of 4.5 percent.
Globally, steel production for the first five months of 2025 totaled 784 million tons — a decrease of 1.3 percent from the previous year. Output in May stood at 158.8 million tons, representing a 3.8 percent drop compared to May 2024.
Iran’s cumulative production is now only 400,000 tons behind Germany, which holds the eighth position in global steel output.
China remains the world’s largest steel producer, manufacturing 431.6 million tons from January to May — a 1.7 percent decline year-on-year. India, Japan, the United States, Russia, South Korea, and Turkey follow in the second through sixth positions, respectively.
