Iran (IMNA) - Initial speculation suggested that munitions containing depleted uranium might have been employed in recent attacks on critical Iranian centers. An informed source had told Tehran-based Fars News Agency that there was a possibility of DU use, with early tests at the targeted sites reportedly detecting traces of depleted uranium. However, ongoing research and further analysis have so far failed to confirm the presence of DU materials in the weapons used.
Depleted uranium is a dense, heavy metal byproduct of uranium enrichment, commonly used in armor-piercing ammunition due to its high density. Although less radioactive than natural uranium, DU poses chemical and radiological health risks. International organizations have repeatedly warned against the use of uranium-based weapons and have emphasized their prohibition.
Military experts continue to analyze the weaponry employed by the Israeli regime, and final results of these investigations will be made public in due course, according to the Fars report.
