Iran (IMNA) - During a recent U.N. Security Council meeting, Iran called on the 15-member body to address what it described as "this blatant and unlawful act of aggression" by the United States against Iranian nuclear sites.
In his remarks, Iravani emphasized that Iran is acting in self-defense while accusing the United States of supporting terrorism in the region. He dismissed U.S. claims against Iran as unfounded and politically motivated, asserting that the assassination of Qassem Soleimani, the commander of Iran's IRGC Quds Force, constituted a terrorist act against an official representative of the Islamic Republic.
Iravani pointed out that the U.S. attacks were influenced by the actions and decisions of European nations, including Britain, France, and Germany, as well as the perceived bias of the IAEA Director General. He noted that while Iran was preparing for diplomatic negotiations, Israeli engaged in aggression against Iran, undermining the talks.
"Our Foreign Minister was negotiating with the European Troika when this American action destroyed the negotiations. How can Iran return to the negotiating table when it has not left it?" he questioned.
Reiterating Iran's stance as an independent and peace-loving nation, Iravani warned the U.S. against escalating tensions. He stated, "Now, Iran, based on international law, reserves its legitimate and full right to defend itself against this blatant aggression by the United States and its proxy, the Israeli regime. The timing, type, and dimensions of Iran's proportionate and reciprocal response will be determined by our armed forces."
