Iran (IMNA) - In an interview with Egypt’s Nile TV, Araghchi addressed the latest developments in Iran-Egypt relations and underscored the importance of bilateral cooperation for regional and international stability. He noted that his recent visit to Cairo was significant, as Iran and Egypt are both influential in West Asia. “Their cooperation can help reduce regional tensions. We held discussions on key issues such as Gaza, Yemen, and the Red Sea,” he said.
Araghchi commended Egypt and Qatar’s efforts to mediate a ceasefire in Gaza, stating that Iran supports any ceasefire endorsed by the people of Gaza and is prepared to work with regional countries to end the conflict.
On the Red Sea situation, Araghchi described current events as a natural response to the actions of the Zionist regime and expressed hope that a ceasefire in Gaza would restore stability to the area. He reiterated Iran’s commitment to strengthening ties with its neighbors and noted that, despite the absence of formal diplomatic relations, cooperation between Iran and Egypt has grown significantly in recent years.
Discussing nuclear negotiations, Araghchi expressed gratitude for Oman’s mediation and Egypt’s support. He reaffirmed that Iran’s nuclear program is peaceful and that nuclear weapons are forbidden. He criticized the latest International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) report as unfair and voiced concern about the politicization of the agency’s activities, but confirmed Iran’s readiness to address concerns through dialogue.
On the future of Iran-Egypt relations, Araghchi highlighted improving ties and growing mutual trust, with several meetings held in recent months. He reiterated Iran’s commitment to a Middle East free of nuclear weapons and welcomed cooperation with Egypt on this initiative.
Regarding the ongoing nuclear talks with the US, Araghchi stated that while the timing of the next round remains undetermined, Oman continues to play an active mediating role. “We have received a proposal from the United States, and in the coming days, we will respond based on the fundamental principles of the Islamic Republic and in line with the interests of the Iranian people. Following that, Oman’s foreign minister will determine the time and place of the next round of negotiations,” he concluded.
