Iran Rejects PGCC Claims Over Three Islands, Asserts Sovereignty

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei firmly responded to the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council’s (PGCC) repeated assertions regarding three Iranian islands during the Council’s 64th meeting of foreign ministers.

Iran (IMNA) - Baghaei stated on Tuesday that the Islamic Republic of Iran will take all necessary measures to safeguard its security and interests concerning the three islands, including their land, water, and airspace, in accordance with its sovereign rights.

He emphasized that Iran regards the PGCC’s remarks about residential construction, official visits by Iranian civil and military authorities, and military exercises on the islands as interference in Iran’s internal affairs, and categorically rejects these statements.

Baghaei further noted that such actions do not undermine Iran’s absolute and effective sovereignty over the islands of Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa, but are inconsistent with international law principles related to respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He concluded by affirming that the islands of Lesser Tunb, Greater Tunb, and Abu Musa are an inseparable part of Iranian territory, and called on the PGCC to pursue a more constructive stance that emphasizes regional commonalities rather than making unfounded claims against Iran’s territorial integrity.
