Iran Agrofood 2025 Opens in Tehran Showcasing Cutting-Edge Food Technology, Agricultural Innovations

The 32nd International Exhibition of Food, Food Technology, and Agriculture, known as Iran Agrofood 2025, officially opened on Monday at Tehran’s International Permanent Fairground.

Iran (IMNA) - The four-day event features participation from 750 domestic companies and 138 foreign firms representing 13 countries, including Spain, Austria, the UAE, Uzbekistan, Italy, Germany, Brazil, Turkey, China, Russia, India, and Greece.

Iran Agrofood serves as a major platform for exchanging knowledge, showcasing the latest technologies, and promoting non-oil exports in Iran’s food and agriculture sectors. The exhibition is divided into three main sections: Iran Food, Iran FoodTech, and Iran Agro, displaying a wide range of products such as food and beverages, protein products, packaging equipment, industrial machinery, and agricultural inputs.

The event attracted over 40,000 trade visitors eager to network and explore innovations across 22 halls. It also includes B2B meetings, technical panels, and trade negotiations to foster collaboration and enhance industry productivity. Notably, industry associations like the National Date Association and the Organic Association of Iran are actively participating, alongside a pavilion dedicated to knowledge-based companies and startups supported by the Innovation and Prosperity Fund.

Iran’s food sector has demonstrated resilience and growth despite international sanctions, which have spurred domestic production capacity and export capabilities. The country now produces more than 120 types of agricultural raw materials and converts them into products with up to 300% added value. Agriculture remains a vital contributor to the economy, with annual output valued at over $70 billion, covering about 83% of Iran’s food needs domestically.

In recent years, Iran has shifted from a food importer to Asia’s largest dairy exporter, supplying products to approximately 50 countries and generating over $700 million in annual revenues. Key export markets include Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, and the United Arab Emirates, which account for nearly 90% of dairy exports in the early months of the Persian year.

The country is also positioning itself as a major player in the global halal food market, with 18 national halal standards and over 26,000 standard labels awarded to halal product manufacturers. Halal products are gaining acceptance beyond Muslim consumers due to their emphasis on clean practices, sustainability, and quality.

Iran’s food industry is a strategic sector that plays a crucial role in ensuring food security, creating employment, and contributing significantly to the country’s GDP. Its industrialization began in the 1960s and has since evolved into a dynamic sector with strong potential for further development through improved productivity, supply chain optimization, export expansion, and adoption of new technologies.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Industry, Mining and Trade attended the opening ceremony, highlighting the government’s support for the sector’s growth and export potential.

Iran Agrofood 2025 underscores the country’s ambition to become a regional hub for food production and technology, leveraging its rich agricultural resources and growing domestic market to boost economic and social development.
