Iran (IMNA) - Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei described the sanctions as "outrageous," "unlawful and inhuman," and equated them to "crimes against humanity" for depriving Iranians of basic human rights.
He stated that these consecutive sanctions reinforce the Iranian people's belief that US policymakers aim to obstruct Iran's development and progress. Baghaei also asserted that the timing of the sanctions, on the eve of the talks, casts doubt on America's seriousness about diplomatic engagement. He affirmed Iran’s resolve to remain steadfast against US hostility.
The sanctions target individuals and entities supplying Iran with certain construction-related materials, as announced by the US State Department two days prior to the talks. The fifth round of indirect negotiations is scheduled to be held in Rome. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi emphasized that US insistence on zero uranium enrichment is a non-starter but suggested a deal could be possible if the talks focus on zero nuclear weapons.
This development follows a pattern of US sanctions under the "maximum pressure" campaign, which Iran has repeatedly condemned as economic terrorism and a sign of US hostility, undermining diplomatic efforts. Iranian officials have accused the US of contradictory behavior—calling for dialogue while imposing punitive measures—and warned that such sanctions jeopardize trust and the prospects for a deal.
