China Affirms Support for Iran’s Right to Peaceful Nuclear Energy Ahead of Istanbul Talks

China reiterated its support for Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear energy on Friday, emphasizing opposition to unilateral sanctions and the importance of diplomacy in resolving nuclear issues.

Iran (IMNA) - Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian stated at a news conference, "We attach importance to Iran’s commitment of not developing nuclear weapons, respect Iran’s right to peaceful use of nuclear power, and oppose any illicit unilateral sanctions".

Lin highlighted Beijing’s ongoing communication and coordination with relevant parties, pledging that China will "play a constructive role in bringing about a solution that accommodates the legitimate concerns of all parties, uphold the international nuclear non-proliferation regime, and promote peace and stability in the Middle East".

These remarks were made ahead of a meeting in Istanbul between Iranian and European officials to discuss the status of Iran’s nuclear program. Lin further stressed, "China is committed to seeking a political and diplomatic resolution of the Iranian nuclear issue".

Following the Istanbul meeting, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi confirmed that discussions focused on the state of Iran-US negotiations. "We exchanged views and discussed the latest state of play on nuclear and sanctions lifting indirect negotiations," Gharibabadi stated.

China’s position comes amid renewed diplomatic efforts to address concerns over Iran’s nuclear activities and ongoing international debates regarding sanctions and regional stability.
