Iran (IMNA) - In statements published Sunday and reiterated on social media, Araghchi emphasized that Iran has “officially warned all JCPOA signatories that any misuse of the snapback mechanism would lead to consequences-not only ending Europe’s role in the deal, but potentially escalating tensions to a point of no return”.
The snapback mechanism, originally designed as a last-resort tool to resolve disputes by reimposing UN sanctions if Iran fails to meet its commitments, is now being wielded as diplomatic leverage, Araghchi argued. He criticized Britain, France, and Germany-the so-called European troika or E3-for adopting a confrontational stance, stating, “The three European countries must ask themselves how the situation has reached such a deadlock”.
Araghchi noted that following recent consultations with Russia and China, he had expressed readiness to travel to Paris, Berlin, and London to open a new chapter in relations. This initiative led to preliminary talks at the deputy foreign minister level, which he described as “fragile, yet promising,” but warned that “time is running fast”.
“How we respond to this critical moment will shape the future of Iran-Europe relations more deeply than many expect. Iran is ready to turn the page. We hope our European partners have the same will,” Araghchi stated.
The warning comes amid ongoing nuclear talks between Iran and the United States in Muscat, with both sides describing the negotiations as positive and moving forward.
