Iranian Foreign Minister Voices Concern Over Arrests of Nationals in UK

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has expressed concern following the arrest of several Iranian nationals in the United Kingdom on suspicion of terrorism offenses, urging British authorities to respect the rights of those detained and ensure due process.

Iran (IMNA) - British police announced the arrest of several Iranian nationals on May 4. Araghchi, in a statement posted on X, said he was “disturbed” by reports of the arrests and indicated Iran’s willingness to assist investigations if credible allegations are established. He called on the UK to guarantee the rights and legal protections of the detained Iranian citizens.

The arrests occur against the backdrop of sensitive negotiations between Iran and the United States. Some Iranian media outlets have speculated that the detentions may be an intentional provocation aimed at derailing talks, which Israel is known to oppose.
