Iran, Russia Reinforce Commitment to Deepen 20-Year Strategic Partnership

The presidents of Iran and Russia, Masoud Pezeshkian and Vladimir Putin, have reaffirmed their determination to deepen strategic cooperation and fully implement the recently signed Comprehensive Strategic Cooperation Agreement.

Iran (IMNA) - In a phone call discussing bilateral ties and global developments, they reviewed progress on joint projects in monetary and banking sectors, transport, and energy. Both leaders highlighted the agreement as a milestone reflecting the depth of Tehran-Moscow relations and a foundation for enhanced political, economic, trade, and security collaboration.

The 20-year pact, signed in January 2025 and ratified by Putin in April, provides a legal framework for long-term cooperation across defense, energy, industry, agriculture, finance, transportation, science, culture, and technology. It aims to boost investments in oil, gas, and peaceful nuclear energy, and to establish an international payment system independent of third-party countries using national currencies.

Putin also expressed support for the indirect nuclear talks between Iran and the United States, offering Russia’s technical assistance. Despite Western sanctions, Iran and Russia have strengthened ties, including military cooperation and economic collaboration, underscoring their role as close strategic allies.
