Official Investigation Blames Safety Failures for Deadly Iran Port Blast

The Committee to Investigate the Causes of the Fire Incident at Shahid Rajaee Port concluded on Monday that the explosion resulted from "failure to observe safety principles and passive defense standards," following expert meetings. Security and judicial authorities are pursuing those responsible for discrepancies in safety protocols.

Iran (IMNA) - While a full technical and laboratory investigation remains ongoing, officials emphasized that immediate steps are being taken to determine the cause, with final results to be released publicly. Iran’s interior minister separately attributed the disaster to "negligence," citing inadequate precautions at the port.

The blast occurred Saturday after a fuel tanker detonated, triggering a massive fire extinguished by Monday. The death toll reached 70, with cleanup operations expected to last around 20 days. Hormozgan officials confirmed the fire’s containment but noted extensive structural damage and ongoing debris removal efforts.
