Iran Urges IAEA to Remain Impartial Amid Renewed Nuclear Diplomacy

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has called on the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to adhere strictly to its professional and technical responsibilities, warning against the influence of political pressures in the Agency’s dealings with Iran.

Iran (IMNA) - The remarks came during a meeting in Tehran on Wednesday with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, who is in the Iranian capital for an official two-day visit.

Araghchi reiterated Iran’s policy of continued engagement and cooperation with the IAEA within the bounds of international legal obligations. He emphasized that the Agency must maintain its professional and technical role, fulfilling its duties without succumbing to what he described as “unjustified pressures from some sides”. The Foreign Minister also underscored the importance of the IAEA taking a clear and transparent stance regarding threats against Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities.

During their discussions, Araghchi briefed Grossi on the ongoing talks between Iran and the United States concerning the lifting of sanctions and nuclear issues, which are being mediated by Oman.

For his part, Director General Grossi expressed appreciation for the opportunity to visit Tehran and highlighted the necessity of continued interaction and cooperation between Iran and the Agency. He stressed the importance of consulting with all parties to foster an environment conducive to resolving outstanding issues. Grossi welcomed the initiation of indirect talks between Iran and the United States, affirming the IAEA’s full support for the negotiation process and expressing hope for a mutually beneficial outcome.

The meeting comes amid heightened diplomatic activity and renewed efforts to address longstanding concerns over Iran’s nuclear program, with both sides emphasizing the need for technical cooperation and transparency.

IAEA Chief Grossi Begins High-Level Nuclear Talks in Tehran

Talks between Mohammad Eslami, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), and Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), commenced in Tehran on Thursday morning. The meeting, held at the AEOI compound, marks the start of a series of discussions aimed at advancing cooperation between Iran and the UN nuclear watchdog.

Grossi arrived in the Iranian capital on Wednesday, leading an IAEA delegation for a two-day visit. Upon arrival, he was welcomed by AEOI spokesperson Behrouz Kamalvandi. According to Iranian officials, the visit is part of ongoing efforts to maintain dialogue and technical engagement between the two sides, particularly at a time when diplomatic solutions are considered urgent.

On Wednesday evening, Grossi met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. His schedule includes further meetings with Eslami, focusing on technical and diplomatic aspects of Iran’s nuclear program.

Following their talks, Eslami and Grossi are set to participate in a joint press conference, where they will address questions from both Iranian and international media outlets.
