Iran, US to Continue Indirect Talks in Oman Next Week

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei announced that Oman will host the next round of indirect talks between Tehran and Washington next week.

Iran (IMNA) - In a social media post on Saturday, Baghaei expressed gratitude to Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi for mediating the discussions. "We thank Oman and FM @badralbusaidi for their excellent job in hosting and mediating these talks," he stated.

Baghaei confirmed that the indirect negotiations, mediated by Oman, would proceed as both sides aim to reach an agreement. "Oman will continue to perform this important endeavour as Iran and U.S.' representatives agreed to carry on their indirect talks next week," he added.

The initial round of talks, held on Saturday, involved delegations stationed in separate rooms, exchanging messages through Oman's foreign minister. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi described the atmosphere as "productive, calm, and positive." He noted that after over two hours of indirect discussions, the heads of both delegations briefly spoke in the presence of the Omani mediator before departing. Araghchi emphasized Iran's commitment to diplomacy, stating, "We do not want talks for the sake of talks."

The negotiations aim to address issues related to Iran's nuclear program and sanctions relief. US President Donald Trump commented that the talks are progressing "okay," while Iranian officials underscored their intent to assess Washington's seriousness in reaching a resolution.
