Iran, U.S. Hold Constructive Indirect Talks in Oman

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi described Saturday's indirect negotiations with the United States in Muscat, Oman, as "constructive" and confirmed that the next round of talks will take place next Saturday.

Iran (IMNA) - The discussions focused on Iran's nuclear program and the lifting of U.S. sanctions. The Iranian delegation was led by Abbas Araghchi, while Steve Witkoff, the U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East, headed the American team. The talks were mediated by Oman's Foreign Minister, al-Busaidi. According to Araghchi, four rounds of messages were exchanged between the two sides during the negotiations.

Araghchi emphasized that Iran is seeking an agreement "as quickly as possible," though he acknowledged that reaching a deal would be challenging. He stated that discussions with the U.S. delegation occurred within a "normal diplomatic framework" and noted plans to address the general framework of a potential agreement in next week's talks.

The indirect talks lasted over two hours, beginning at 3:30 PM local time and concluding around 5:50 PM. As the delegations exited the meeting, Araghchi revealed that he briefly spoke with Witkoff in the presence of Oman's foreign minister.
