Iran, U.S. Prepare for Indirect Talks in Oman Amid Diplomatic Tensions

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson emphasized Tehran's commitment to diplomacy, stating, "In earnest and with candid vigilance, we are giving diplomacy a genuine chance."

Iran (IMNA) - The remarks, shared on social media on Friday, highlighted Iran's intention to evaluate the U.S.'s intent and resolve during upcoming talks in Oman.

The spokesperson urged the U.S. to value Iran's decision to engage in dialogue despite ongoing confrontational rhetoric. "We don't prejudge, we don't predict," he added, underscoring that Tehran will assess the situation during Saturday's discussions and respond accordingly.

High-level delegations from both nations are set to arrive in Muscat, Oman, on Saturday morning. After meeting with Oman's Foreign Minister, indirect negotiations will commence, with Oman acting as a mediator. The Iranian delegation will be led by Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araqchi, while U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff will head the American team. Reports suggest that rumors of Witkoff abstaining from the talks if direct negotiations are not held remain unconfirmed. ‌
