Iran Criticizes Europe for Misusing Human Rights Mechanisms

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei urged European countries not to follow the United States in imposing illegal sanctions against Iran.

Iran (IMNA) - He criticized nations like Britain and Germany for exploiting human rights mechanisms to exert political pressure on developing countries.

Baghaei condemned these countries for leading an anti-Iranian resolution in the United Nations Human Rights Council, labeling the resolution legally invalid. He argued that the resolution was based on malice, unsubstantiated claims, sweeping generalizations, and undocumented allegations attributed to unnamed sources.

Highlighting the records of Britain, Germany, France, Canada, and other sponsors of the resolution, Baghaei accused them of human rights violations in West Asia over the past two years. He pointed to atrocities such as the genocide in Gaza and Israel’s crimes against Syrians and Lebanese civilians, asserting that these nations lack moral authority to lecture others on human rights.

Specifically, Baghaei criticized Britain as one of the largest arms suppliers to Israel and condemned its foreign minister’s controversial remarks about genocide in Gaza. He also accused Germany of being the second-largest arms supplier to Israel and permitting the massacre of innocent Palestinian women and children.

Baghaei reaffirmed Iran's commitment to safeguarding human rights and freedoms under its constitution, laws, and international agreements. He emphasized that Iran remains dedicated to removing human rights violations and continues cooperating with United Nations mechanisms to advance global progress in this area.

He concluded by accusing certain countries, particularly Germany and Britain, of using the Human Rights Council as a tool for imposing their political agendas on other nations. This approach, he argued, undermines international cooperation and disrupts efforts to foster global progress in human rights.
