Iran (IMNA) - “I wish to express my deep concern and unequivocal condemnation of recent belligerent statements by senior officials of the United States administration, including the president of the United States, while they were attempting desperately to unlawfully justify the US’ acts of aggression and war crimes against Yemen,” Iravani stated. He called these statements a violation of international law and the UN Charter, particularly Article 2(4), which prohibits threats or use of force against sovereign states.
The condemnation follows large-scale U.S. airstrikes on Yemen's capital Sana’a and other provinces on Saturday night, marking the first such attacks since President Trump assumed office in January. The strikes reportedly killed at least 53 people, mostly women and children, and injured 101 others. U.S. forces launched 47 airstrikes targeting various regions, including Sa’ada, al-Bayda, and Dhamar provinces.
President Trump accused Iran of supporting Yemen’s Ansarullah resistance movement and warned Tehran to cease its backing immediately. He stated that Washington holds Iran "fully accountable" for its alleged role in the conflict.
Iravani rejected these accusations as reckless and provocative, warning that any act of aggression against Iran would have severe consequences for which the U.S. would bear full responsibility. He urged the UN Security Council to denounce such inflammatory rhetoric and ensure compliance with international law.
The Iranian diplomat also condemned ongoing U.S. and UK military actions in Yemen as violations of sovereignty and international law. He argued that these actions threaten regional stability and constitute war crimes under international humanitarian law.
The strikes come amid heightened tensions in the region, with Yemen's Ansarullah movement warning of retaliatory actions against U.S. military assets in response to continued aggression.
