Iran Urges Regional Cooperation, Rejects External Interference in Security Matters

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei emphasized the importance of regional collaboration to ensure stability and security, urging Iran, Turkey, and other nations to prioritize creating a conflict-free region.

I‌‌‌‌‌‌‌ran (IMNA) - Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Baghaei highlighted the necessity of addressing regional challenges without reliance on external powers.

Baghaei reaffirmed Iran’s strong ties with Lebanon, stating that Tehran values its relationship with both the Lebanese government and the resistance movement in Lebanon, which it views as supportive of the country’s governance. He noted ongoing discussions aimed at resolving any misunderstandings between the two sides.

Reacting to a recent verbal clash between former U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Baghaei stressed that nations should depend on internal and regional capabilities for security. “In West Asia, particularly in the Persian Gulf, countries must rely on their own internal and regional capabilities to ensure security. No third party can be trusted or depended upon in this regard,” he stated. He further warned against a return to outdated practices of power and coercion in international relations.

On Iran-Turkey relations, Baghaei described bilateral ties as highly valued, emphasizing mutual interests and historical connections. He praised Ankara’s commitment to maintaining constructive relations and resolving differences through dialogue.

Addressing recent claims by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi about Iran’s nuclear program, Baghaei dismissed allegations of nuclear weapon development. He reiterated that Iran’s nuclear activities comply with international law, including the Safeguards Agreement and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. He called on Grossi to act within his mandate under the IAEA statute.
