Iran (IMNA) - Speaking at a gathering in Bushehr Province on Thursday, Pezeshkian questioned U.S. President Donald Trump's true intentions, stating, “We’re not saying that we don’t negotiate, but Trump can’t impose all kinds of sanctions on us and then speak of negotiating. Why would he block food and water and medicine from us?”.
Pezeshkian emphasized that the U.S. is not after negotiations but desires Iran's submission, declaring, “But we won’t be made submissive.” He expressed confidence in the Iranian people's ability to overcome challenges through self-reliance and a clear roadmap for progress, asserting, “Enemies won’t be able to block our path. We will find our way”.
On the previous day, Pezeshkian remarked that Iran's future should not depend on foreign decisions, urging Iranian youth to develop skills and determination to address national issues. His comments come in the context of Trump reinstating a "maximum pressure" campaign against Iran aimed at crippling its oil exports and nuclear ambitions while simultaneously indicating a desire for negotiations.
Pezeshkian criticized this contradictory approach, noting that Trump’s actions do not align with his rhetoric about dialogue. Furthermore, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has stated that negotiating with Trump's administration would be unwise and dishonorable.
